Mobile Broadband Inches in on Fixed Line Market

UK’s market research company, YouGov claims that Mobile Broadband is beginning to inch in on the fixed line market. This among other things is actually a threat to the business of fixed line operators. YouGov’s DongleTrack report indicates that there are some people who are not quite happy with using just dongles. An estimated 64 percent of mobile broadband users still seem to like having dongles or datacards as an alternative. In fact, the survey indicated that some four percent of these mobile broadband users are fortunate to have employers who equip them with datacards. There is a small percent (12%) of users who have completely discarded their fixed line, or will rather not have a landline installed at all.

An analysis of the digital market by Ofcom indicated that dongle sales in the UK almost doubled during the period February to June. From 69,000, sale figures have now soared to 133,000 a month. This is definitely a factor that is a threat to the fixed line market. Added to that, more and more people are relying solely on mobile phones for their phone calls.
