Opera’s Turbo to Offer Relief for Slow Internet Connections

Mobile broadband users have been having a tough time, with broadband speeds being far from satisfactory. The speeds currently being offered are nowhere close to what is advertised or what they are expected to offer.

Things are looking up now, with Opera, a software development company, releasing a new browser called ‘Turbo’, specially targeted at slower internet connections.

The new browser promises to make browsing on slower connections a much better experience as according to the company browsing speeds could be improved by a factor of four. This would be ensured by compressing web pages by up to 80 percent by sending them to Opera’s own servers before they are sent to the browser.

The compression might cause certain amount of loss of resolution, but that is something users would be ready to live with as long as speeds are improved significantly. Turbo is also said to support features like AJAX and Flash, and it would ensure that the website layout is displayed correctly. The project has the potential to be a major relief for the mobile broadband market, especially for users browsing on a netbook. For the latest offers with free laptops, take a look at a dedicated website Mobile Broadband Genie.

The news of the new browser by Opera follows a statement by Microsoft that it too was increasing its focus on the netbook market. With high growth expected in the market, more applications catering specifically to netbook users could soon follow.
